Eesti Energia to start selling electricity and natural gas in Poland

A permit has been issued by the Polish Energy Regulatory Office to Enefit, subsidiary of Eesti Energia, to trade with electricity and natural gas. The company is focused on providing services to small and medium scale enterprises and bigger industrial clients.

According to the head of the energy sales division of Eesti Energia Karla Agan, the start of business activities in Poland is a part of the strategic objective of Eesti Energia to grow from solely being a Baltic electricity seller to an energy seller and provider of energy services throughout the whole Baltic sea region. “We have been successfully operating in Latvia and Lithuania for more than ten years and have secured a leading position in the Baltic energy market. On the basis of this experience, we believe that we will also succeed in Poland”.

In Poland, Enefit is selling electricity and natural gas that has been bought from energy stock exchange. In addition to the sale of energy, consultations and additional services related to energy are provided. “We are contributing towards the creation of long-term partnerships in Poland. We see that there is space on the Polish market for an energy seller who offers products that are relevant to the needs of clients as well as a high-quality personal service,” added Agan.

The annual volume of the Polish power market is more than 161 TWh (terawatt-hours), which is more than six times bigger than the total Baltic market of 25 TWh (incl. Estonia 8 TWh, Latvia 7 TWh and Lithuania 10 TWh) for last year. The annual volume of the Polish gas market is more than 166 TWh, which is four times bigger than the total Baltic market of 41 TWh (incl. Estonia 5 TWh, Latvia 14 TWh and Lithuania 22 TWh) last year.
