Enefit partners with Kehtna rural municipality for a major street lighting upgrade
Enefit and Kehtna rural municipality have signed a 10-year full-service agreement under which the entire existing street lighting network will be upgraded. A total of 1,160 new, modern LED luminaires will be installed across the municipality, operating on an energy-saving dimming schedule.
Thanks to the new solution, both the quality of lighting and the efficiency of energy consumption will improve. The luminaires will function according to a dimming schedule, developed based on the needs of the municipality and the movement habits of its residents. Additionally, safety in the area will increase, as pedestrians will be better protected with improved visibility.
‘Modern lighting solutions are much more than just a more attractive environment – they provide better light intensity and durability, offering long-term benefits to both residents and the rural municipality,’ said Tanel Lillesaar, Business Development Manager at Enefit Energy Services.
‘With the smart control system, the luminaires can be dimmed or turned off when needed or during lower-priority times. At the same time, the new network requires no additional investments: the rural municipality will pay a fixed monthly fee until the end of the 10-year validity period of the agreement, after which the lighting network will belong to the rural municipality,’ he continued.
In addition to design documentation, installation work, and control options, the full-service solution includes new electricity connections, ongoing maintenance of the luminaires, and repairs in the event of malfunctions.
‘The community is evolving, technology is advancing, and it makes sense to keep up with the times,’ said Tanel Viks, Mayor of Kehtna rural municipality. ‘Technical solutions help us save time and better plan our cash flow. Ultimately, the environment will become better and safer for our people – that’s the goal. Although it is possible to achieve certain results independently, smaller rural municipalities may lack specialists with the necessary skills, so it makes sense to use professional services.’
The complete project is expected to be finished in the first few months of the new year. In addition to upgrading the street lighting, Enefit will also take responsibility for installing the annual Christmas lights. The new solution will use energy generated entirely from renewable sources to power the luminaires, helping the rural municipality save approximately 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
