Enefit Donates 28 Electric Vehicle Chargers to Ukraine

As part of its ongoing efforts to modernise its electric vehicle charging network, Enefit is donating 28 decommissioned ELMO chargers to Ukraine. The internationally recognised organisation AVERE Ukraine will facilitate the receipt and transportation of these chargers.

“We are making advancements in the development of Enefit’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with network modernisation being an important component of this process. As part of these efforts, we are donating chargers that have been removed from our network. While these units have been previously used, they remain in full working order,” stated Kelli Toss-Kaasik, Chairman of the Management Board at Enefit.

The donated ABB Terra 51 (50 kW) chargers, commonly referred to as ELMO chargers, have played a pioneering role in the introduction and adoption of electric vehicles in Estonia. These fast chargers were among the first to be installed in the country’s public charging network since 2011. However, the manufacturer has discontinued software support and further platform development for these models, prompting Enefit to phase them out of its public network. Despite this, the chargers remain fully operational, and their continued use in Ukraine will not be hindered by the absence of software updates.

Commenting on the modernisation of Estonia’s electric vehicle charging network, Toss-Kaasik highlighted Enefit’s commitment to meeting evolving charging requirements: “Vehicle models and charging standards have advanced considerably, and the market now offers a significantly broader selection of charging solutions. In response to these developments, we have replaced older chargers operating under the CHAdeMO standard with modern CCS-compatible units, which align with the charging capabilities of most contemporary electric vehicles.”

She further emphasised that Enefit will continue to maintain CHAdeMO charging options in select locations where usage statistics indicate sustained demand for this standard.
