Lauri Karp to become member of the Management Board of Eesti Energia and Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Power

Lauri Karp will assume the role of a member of the Management Board of Eesti Energia and the Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Power, the energy group’s large-scale industrial enterprise, starting September 7th.

According to Andrus Durejko, Chairman of the Management Board of Eesti Energia and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Enefit Power, Karp, who has previously led the company’s strategy unit, will be tasked with shaping Enefit Power into a profitable, sustainable, and competitive large-scale industrial enterprise with a clear future vision.

“We see the future growth of Enefit Power in developing large-scale industrial operations, which involves establishing a low-environmental-impact chemical industry on the foundation of liquid fuels production in the coming decades,” Durejko said. “In the near future, it is also essential to find a sustainable solution for maintaining Estonia’s critical reserve power plants, which can no longer operate under market conditions, with minimal burden on taxpayers. At the same time, Estonia needs modern, low-environmental-impact controllable power plants, and developing these is also a significant challenge for Enefit Power.”

Durejko highlighted that Karp’s international experience in the industrial, logistics, and financial sectors, along with his strong strategic competence, provides an excellent foundation for transforming Enefit Power into a future-oriented industrial enterprise.

“Leading Enefit Power is akin to standing on the shoulders of a giant: this is a large and diverse company with 85 years of experience, now on the threshold of a new phase of development,” said Karp. “My goal as the Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Power is to steer the company clearly towards modern industry and unlock new business opportunities both in Estonia and globally. Enefit Power and the entire Ida-Virumaa region have a strong industrial heritage, unique expertise, and a forward-looking mindset that will allow us to successfully realize the hidden potential of the whole area. I thank the leadership of Eesti Energia and the Supervisory Board of Enefit Power for their trust and the opportunity to lead one of the region’s most promising industrial enterprises.”

Previously, Karp served as a member of the Supervisory Board of AS Silmet Group, an energy production and logistics company group operating in Ida-Virumaa, from 2010 to 2023, and as a member of the Supervisory Board of the chemical industry company AS Molycorp Silmet from 2010 to 2011. He has also led the financial technology company KFPD GmbH in Frankfurt, worked at the consulting firm Springer AG Management Consultants, and held positions at Deutsche Bank and Swedbank. From 2007 to 2013, Karp was also an advisory member of the Financial Advisory Board of the State of Salzburg in Austria. He began his career at the Heidelberg Materials Group in Germany.

Karp holds a master’s degree in Economics, Financial Policy, and Financial Markets from Heidelberg University in Germany and has furthered his studies in renewable energy and hydrogen economy.

The Management Board of Enefit Power includes Arles Taal, Erkki Kaisla, Meelis Goldberg, and Aleksandr Jefremov.

Andres Vainola left his position by mutual agreement with the Chairman of the Management Board Andrus Durejko and the Supervisory Board of the energy conglomerate on July 5th. He will leave his role as Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Power by mutual agreement with the Supervisory Board of Enefit Power on September 6th.

The executive management of Eesti Energia is handled by the Management Board, which consists of six members appointed by the Supervisory Board of the company. The Chairman of the Board is Andrus Durejko, and in addition to Karp, the board members are Kelli Toss-Kaasik, Marlen Tamm, Kristjan Kuhi, and Raido Ivalo.
