Three simple tips for summer-time energy saving

Sunny weather is not just about going to the beach and enjoying good harvest. It is also a time when you can successfully reduce your energy consumption, saving both costs and reducing your ecological footprint.

How to cool your home energy-efficiently

Energy-efficient cooling starts with the planning of the building - the layout of the building in relation to the cardinal directions, the choice of materials and the sizes and locations of the window and door surfaces. However, this does not mean that in the case of the 30-degree weather in July this year, nothing could be done in an existing building to create a cooler feeling.

During the day, when you are away from home, it is wise to cover the windows that are facing south. This prevents intense sunlight from entering the room. The best solution for this is window coverings on the facade of the building.

It is also worth closing the windows during the day so that the warm outside air does not enter the building. When you get home, open the windows in different directions to create a draft that creates a cooling effect. As an additional measure, it is wise to use fans that move the air and create a cooling effect similar to a draft.

If the heat still gets too much, then you shouldn't be ashamed to buy a cooling device or air conditioner. Air conditioning is perhaps the most effective solution that puts the stops the heat immediately.

Air conditioners have also become more and more popular in households, because in addition to convenient cooling, many air conditioners can also heat your home moderately. Thus, the device is useful in both summer and winter. Modern equipment is economical and efficient and always ensures a uniform temperature and a pleasant indoor climate.

Prefer natural light

On average, almost 15% of a household's annual energy consumption goes to lighting. During the day, when there is enough light, it is worth avoiding double lighting and always prefer daylight. If there is not enough daylight when reading, for example, a spotlight is a more energy-efficient choice.

In the garden, however, it is wise to use garden lights in the summer, which use solar energy to work. These luminaires do not require the installation of electrical wires and are relatively maintenance-free - when it gets dark, the lamp starts to burn itself with the help of solar energy accumulated during the day and is a very effective solution.

Water saving options

To reduce the energy used to heat the water and the overall water consumption, it is advisable to install economical mixers or mixer nozzles. The water consumption of economical shower heads is, on average, two to three times lower than that of conventional faucets.

Water savings can be achieved by using less water, but energy consumption can be reduced by using water at a lower pressure and at a lower temperature - using too hot water is generally not practical. It is also worth taking the opportunity to prefer a shower or swimming in lakes of sea to home baths. The average bath takes almost 200 liters of water, while an eight-minute shower with a water-saving shower head is only 70 liters.
